A “Strong” password is one that includes at least one capital letter, one number and one special character. The reason for using at least one of each of these characters is that it makes guessing the password substantially harder or virtually impossible.
How to create a strong password that you can remember
The problem most people have with strong passwords is that they struggle to remember them, so they default back to a weak password. Follow these steps to create a strong password that you can remember:
Pick one special character that you can remember – If you use more than one special character in your password, chances are that you will have a hard time remembering it. If you use a special character such as the “@” symbol, “!”, “#” or “$”, you are likely to remember that you used it. Special characters such as “~” or “^” are harder to remember.
Use numbers for inverted letters – For example, if your password is “Apple”, make it “Appl3″. It will be easy for you to remember that the password is “kite”, with numbers for inverted letters.
Add a number to the end – If your password is “Tree”, and you need to add a numer, add it to the end. An example of a number that is easy for you to remember for hard for someone else to guess is the zip code of your childhood home, or the last four digits of your phone number at college. These are numbers you are likely to always remember but again, not so easy for someone to guess.
Putting it all together
With the technique outlined above, you can build a password that is easy to remember. Here is an example:
- My nickname in high school was “Rabbit”
- The zip code of the town I grew up in is “55442″
- A Special Character I wold like to use is: “$”
Using these facts, I could create the following strong password: “$Rabbit44552″
